Apple must think we're retarded.
I just saw an iPhone ad with some idiot saying that before he got an iPhone, he had to carry an iPod, a camera, a "regular phone", and a "phone I used for text messaging and emails and stuff".

Does he live in some magical fairy kingdom where you can buy two cell phones and neither one will have a camera or a music player built into it? And if he's carrying the second phone around, why would he still need the first one?

Maybe it's a sign that the hype has died down and they're having trouble selling these things.

I was under the impression that the cameras and MP3's players in phones tended to be crappy, so maybe the idea is that the iPhone's built-in camera is finally just as good as a standalone camera.

The "phone for text messaging and emails and stuff" is obviously a Blackberry, which isn't really a phone (or maybe it is now, I haven't lived next door to the RIM building for years). It's mainly notable for having a usable QWERTY keyboard.

Newer Blackberries can be used as phones. The iPhone has a 2 megapixel camera, but that's not unusually high these days.

Blackberry, Blackjacks and Treos are all working phones, that are also planners, cameras, text messaging machines with qwerty keypads, and the newer styles are also mp3 players...

Of course, they dont have the capacity or design of the iPhone,... but they are also half the price, and you can use your usual Verizon, Sprint or Cingular/ATT phone service.

*pictures that one informercial with the lady trying to jam an entire apple into the small neck of a juicer machine*

*cut to black and white image of woman pulling items out of a HUGE purse*
Here is what my purse USED to look like!
See lady pull out:
2G Nano,
30G video iPod,
old-school 1st gen 20G non-video Ipod,
huge brick candybar cellphone from 1995,
a flip phone equipped with voice dial circa 2001,
a new style pocket PC,
and old-school scheduler,
A digicam,
lady pulls a full sized laptop and wireless adapter from the purse

*lady sighs like she's exasperated* "Its just too much! When will they make something better?"

*At this point an Apple Expert enters the scene and suddenly the screen goes to color.* "Here, try this!" *hands her an iPhone*

********

See? Its TOTALLY worth $400 ($600 with a $100 rebate for early adopters) to ignore the fact that the iPhone is only innovative in design and user-concept, but not in actual technology. Right? ;)
